What we see

What small businesses actually call about

Rarely anything exotic. Almost always one of these, and almost always urgent.

Nobody can print, and the day has stopped

The most common call there is. Usually a driver, an IP address that changed, or a queue that has jammed — twenty minutes remotely, and it stays fixed if the underlying cause gets dealt with rather than the symptom.

Email has stopped, or is going to junk

Sometimes the mailbox, often the domain. SPF, DKIM and DMARC records that were never set up properly are why your invoices land in a customer's spam folder. See Microsoft 365.

Someone has left and still has access

A genuinely serious one, and very common. Accounts, shared files, the WiFi password, the till login. Offboarding properly takes half an hour and is the difference between a departure and an incident.

The one machine that runs the business is failing

There is nearly always one. The PC with the accounts on it, or the till, or the machine plugged into a bit of hardware nobody can replace. Getting that one machine backed up and documented is the highest-value hour you can buy.

New starter, no setup

A laptop, an email address, the right file access and the printer working, on day one rather than day four. Straightforward when someone owns it.

Nobody knows what we have got

No list of machines, licences, warranties or who has admin. Half a day of documenting saves days later, and it is where most support relationships should start.

How it works

How support works in practice

It starts with a look at what you actually have — machines, network, email, backups, who has access to what. That list normally does not exist, and creating it is where most of the quick wins turn up.

Then day-to-day: things that break get fixed, remotely where possible and on-site when it needs hands. £45 an hour, no call-out charge in Luton, and no obligation to sign anything.

Alongside that, the work that stops calls happening — networks that hold up, backups that are tested, patches applied, and a security review that is honest about what is exposed.

You are dealing with one person, formally qualified rather than self-taught, with the certifications listed on the IT support page. The upside is that nothing gets passed between departments. The limit is that this is not a 24/7 helpdesk, and if that is what you need you should have one.

Questions

The things people actually ask

Do I need a contract?

No. Most clients pay for what they use at £45 an hour. A monthly arrangement makes sense once you would rather have a predictable bill and scheduled checks than call when something breaks, but it is your choice and not a condition of getting help.

How quickly do you respond?

Remote issues are usually same day, Monday to Saturday, 9am to 9pm. On-site in Luton is normally same or next day. Sundays are kept for emergencies. Being straight about this matters more than promising a number I cannot always hit.

Is one person enough for our business?

For most businesses under about twenty people, comfortably. Above that, or if you cannot tolerate any downtime at all, you need a team with proper cover and you should be told that rather than sold something thinner. If that is you, say so and I will be honest about it.

Can you work with the systems we already have?

Yes, and normally that is the right answer. Ripping things out to replace them with something familiar to the engineer is a cost to you and a convenience to them. What is there gets assessed first, and only what is genuinely holding you back gets changed.

Everything else

The rest of what we do

One person does all of it, which is why nothing gets handed between departments. Start on the services page if you would rather see it all at once, or the web design page for sites and shops.
